Background
The Hopi missile was one of the elements of the US Navy's comprehensive rearmament program, which included both unguided aircraft rockets and guided aircraft of various classes, anti-submarine missiles , research missiles and samples of conventional naval artillery weapons of the fleet [4] [5] .
History
- Development
Hopi was a further development of NAR BOAR , also developed at China Lake. The main structural differences from the source were the increased mass and range, the changed aerodynamic characteristics [6] . The W50 thermonuclear warhead, identical to that used on anti-aircraft guided missiles of the Nike Zeus anti-missile defense complex [3], was designed for missile equipment.
- Tests
Rocket tests were conducted in 1958. Already in June 1958 Missiles and Rockets published an authoritative publication in the field of rocket science, in which, with reference to informed sources in the US Navy, it was reported that the rocket had already gone beyond the stage of research and development [4] . Further work on the project was discontinued in December of the same year and no longer resumed [6] .
