After the death of his father in Parthia and the return of Uncle Demetrius II Nikator to power in 129 BC. e. Antioch’s mother sent her son to the city of Kizik (located on the shores of the Sea of Marmara ). From here he got his nickname "Kiziksky".
Antiochus returned in 116 BC. e. to Syria and claimed the throne. The country was then ruled by his cousin (stepbrother [2] ) brother Antiochus VIII Gripp . The internecine war began, in which in 112 BC. e. died the wife of Antioch Cleopatra , who was killed by order of the wife of Antiochus VIII Triphenes . A year later, Antiochus defeated his brother, captured and killed Tryphena. In the end, the country was divided between the brothers. Antiochus got Celesirius and Phenicia .
In 96 BC e. Antiochus VIII was killed by his adviser Heracleon, and the following year, the son of Antiochus VIII Seleucus VI Epiphanes captured Antiochus of Kizicki and ordered him executed [3] [4] (according to other sources, Antiochus committed suicide to avoid captivity [5] ). His son Antiochus X Euseb continued the struggle with the sons of Antiochus VIII.
