Phaeodactylum tricornutum (lat.) Is a species of diatoms , unique in the genus Phaeodactylum and in the family Phaeodactylaceae [1] . Unlike other diatoms, P. tricornutum is able to exist in various forms ( spindle-shaped , oval), and changes in shape can be stimulated by external conditions [2] . This feature can be used to study the mechanisms controlling the shape (morphology) of the cell at the molecular level.

Phaeodactylum tricornutum is a potential microalgae source of energy. It grows rapidly, and contains a protein mass of 20-30% of the dry mass of the cell under standard cultural conditions [3] [4] .
