Tapirus polkensis (lat.) Is an extinct mammalian species from the tapir family. These small animals were common in North America from the end of the Miocene to the beginning of the Pliocene [2] . The weight of tapirs was approximately 125 kg [2] , which makes them the smallest known tapirs, with the exception of the recently discovered species Tapirus kabomani , whose representatives weigh 110 kg each. They probably lived in swamps, where they were supposed to become the prey of the ancestors of modern American crocodiles.
