Description

Large, oblong bugs with a gummy body. Length 11 - 19 mm. Upper body in rare puncture. The head is transverse with distinct slightly curved and shortened frontal grooves. The clypeus membrane is yellow-orange in color, poorly visible in females and large in size longitudinal in males. Antennae 11-segmented, but appear 10-segmented (since the second segment is poorly visible), with a 4-segmented mace. The elytra is completely black, shortened and does not completely cover the pygidia and propigidium. The elytra is devoid of ribs and carinae. The pronotum is back trapezoidal, convex, flattened at the sides and at the base. Sternites of abdomen with uniform dense short yellow-gray or dark pubescence. Forelegs down. In males, they are lamellarly expanded. Hind femur covered with thick yellow hairs. Hind tibia relatively narrow, not curved, slightly widened toward apex.

Range

Primorsky Krai of Russia, North and North-East China , Taiwan , Japan , Korean Peninsula .

Biology

Obligate necrophage : feeds on carrion both at the adult stage and at the larval stage. Beetles dig holes near corpses, but do not try to bury it. Concerns about the offspring (unlike Nicrophorus species) do not show.
