Carantan ( fr. Carentan ) - a canton in France, located in the Normandy region , Department of the English Channel . It is located in three districts: two communes are part of the Coutances district, seven are part of the Saint-Lo district, and eighteen are part of the Cherbourg district.

History
Until 2015, the canton included the communes: Brevan , Quarantan , Cas , Le Be , Meoti , Ove , Hose , Red , Saint-Georges-de-Boon , Saint-Com-du-du-Monts , Saint-Pelleren , Saint-Andre de Boon , Saint-Hilaire-Petyville and Szenteny .
As a result of the 2015 reform [1], the composition of the canton was changed. Only twelve communes remained in its composition; Ose and Red moved to the canton of Agon Koutenville ; instead, the canton included thirty-one communes of the abolished cantons of La E du du Puy , Perrier and Saint-Mer-Eglise .
Since January 1, 2016, the composition of the canton has changed: the communes of Amfreville , Wendfontaine , Gurbeville , Cretville and Utvil joined the commune of Pikovil ; the communes of Beauville-au-Plain , Fucarville , Chef du Pont, and Ecoceneoville joined the commune of Saint-Mer-Eglise ; the communes of Senteny and Saint-Georges-de-Boon formed the new commune of Ter-e-Mare ; The communes of Angouville-au-Plain , Le Ve , Quarantine , Saint-Com-du-du-Monts and Weswil formed the new commune of Quarantan-le-Mare , to which the status of the administrative center of the canton passed.
From January 1, 2017, the composition of the canton changed again: the communes of Brevan and Saint-Pelleren joined the commune of Carantan-le-Marais , and the commune of Le Muatiers-en-Botois of the canton of Briquetback joined the commune of Piqueville .

Policy
In the 2017 presidential election, the canton residents cast in the 1st round of Marine Le Pen 25.1% of the vote against 22.9% of Francois Fillon , 22.4% of Emmanuel Macron and 15.2% of Jean-Luc Melanson ; in the 2nd round, Macron won the canton, receiving 61.1% of the vote. (2012 1st round: Nicolas Sarkozy - 30.2%, Francois Hollande - 26.1%, Marine Le Pen - 19.2%; 2nd round: Sarkozy - 52.6%).
Since 2015, the canton has been represented on the Channel Council by the vice-mayor of Carantan-le-Mare, Maryse Le Goff, and former mayor of Saint-Mer-Eglise, Marc Lefèvre (both are Miscellaneous Rights ).
