The 61st edition of the Tour de France , a grand highway tour that took place on the roads of France and Spain from June 27 to July 21, 1974. The start took place in Brest , and the race in Paris finished for the last time at the Velodrome de Vincennes .

The Belgian Eddie Merckx , having won the fifth time, caught up with the Frenchman Jacques Anketil in this respect .

Having won the Giro d'Italia a month earlier, and a month after the Tour and the World Cup, Merx will be the first owner of the triple crown of cycling .
