Valery Pavlovich Nikolayev (b. September 12, 1941 , Tula ) - Russian ocean historian , graduated from the Faculty of History of Moscow State University (1965), candidate of historical sciences (from 24.06.1983), head of the Department of South Pacific Studies of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (since 1992).
