The society arose as a result of the activities of Okumura Yoko , after the rebellion of boxers in 1900 - 1901 in China, he followed the Japanese expeditionary force "messenger of comfort". She convinced official Konoe Atsumaro of the need to create a women's organization that would help raise the morale of soldiers at the front, encourage new members to the troops, take care of the wounded and provide services to families of military personnel.

Since 1903 , the president of the company was intended to have the emperor of Japan . During the Russo-Japanese War, the number of members of the society totaled 460,000. They sent so-called “joy packages” to Japanese soldiers to the front with letters from relatives or everyday necessities.

Okumura continued to call in the regions for new members of her society, contributing to the growth of militaristic sentiments among the Japanese. After the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War, she became the organizer of the female patriotic movement. In 1937 , the number of members of her Patriot Society was about 3,380,000. Its main competitor was the Women's National Defense Society .

In 1942 , the Society of Patriots was annexed to the Women's Society of Great Japan , the lower organizational unit of the Society for Assisting the Imperial Board of the Partnership for Assisting the Imperial Board .
