The hairs are longer along the lateral edge and at the apex of the posterior thorax. The posterior margins of the abdominal segments are also covered with yellow hairs. Swivels of hind legs with a long tooth. Tibia of hind legs strongly bent inwards.

Range

Russia ( Primorye ), Mongolia , East China (south to the island of Taiwan ), Korean Peninsula , Japan .

Biology

It is a necrophage : it feeds on carrion both at the adult stage and at the larval stage. Beetles bury the corpses of small animals in the soil and show developed care for the offspring - larvae, preparing a nutrient substrate for them. Larvae with 6 underdeveloped legs and groups of 6 eyes on each side emerge from the laid eggs. An interesting feature of the grave diggers is care for the offspring: although the larvae are able to feed on their own, parents dissolve the corpse tissue with digestive enzymes, preparing a nutritious “broth” for them.
