Arai Yukan

Born December 24, 1864 in the Aoyama area of Edo .

In 1871 he entered the service at the Fleet Bureau under the Ministry of War . In 1890 he was appointed commander of the cruising armadillo Chiyoda and sent on it for an internship in the UK .

He participated in the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895 . He distinguished himself in battles on the Yellow Sea , in which he commanded the battleship Fuso . In 1898 he was awarded the title of Rear Admiral .

During the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905, the Varyag cruiser , which was flooded by Russian sailors in the harbor of Ichkhon , lifted. At the end of the war he received the rank of vice admiral.

He died at the age of 61 on December 1, 1909.
