Biography
The newspaper “Tverskaya Pravda” dated March 14, 1926 reported that the hero of the mass drafts tournament was 8-year-old Kolya Sretensky. He was a winner among adults in competitions held according to the Olympic system and received a memorable gift - a book on drafts of Vasily Russo. At the age of 10, he successfully performed in provincial competitions among textile workers.
In 1932 he graduated from high school and enrolled in FZU at the car-building plant. In 1937, he took third place in the All-Union Tournament of First-Graders. In the semifinals of the championship of the USSR, he fulfilled the standard of a master of sports.
In June 1941, the semifinal of the USSR Championship in Rostov-on-Don was held. Nikolai Sretensky received the right to participate in the final of the national championship. But the final did not take place due to the outbreak of war.
Having gone through the whole war he returned to sports and in 1948 won the title of champion of the RSFSR . At the same time, he began to conduct a drafts section in the Palace of Pioneers. As a trainer, he trained 20 masters of sports and over 40 candidates for master. In 1963 he was awarded the title "Honored Coach of the RSFSR".
