The bike race was established in 1978 by King Liu , the founder of Giant Bicycles . [2] The route for the first issue of the race began in the capital of Taiwan , Taipei , passed through the western, southern and eastern parts of the island and also finished in the capital of Taiwan.
Until 2002, it was not held regularly among amateurs. Starting next year, professionals were eligible to compete, but in 2003 and 2004 the race was not authorized by UCI .
