Biography
Baalezor I is known from a single historical source : quotes from [1] , preserved in Josephus Flavius 's work “ ” [3] [4] . In his turn, Menander borrowed his testimonies directly from the chronicles in the archives of the city of Tire [5] [6] [7] .
According to this source, Baalezor I is the son of Hiram the Great , a contemporary of the kings of Israel and Judea David and Solomon . Having received power over Tire after the death of his father, he reigned for seventeen years [K 1] and died at the age of forty-three. The successor of Baalezor I was his son Abdustart [3] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12] [13] .
The dating of the rulers of the rulers of Tire, who lived later than the middle of the ninth century BC. e., based on the mention in one of the inscriptions on the receipt in 841 BC. er the ruler of Assyria, Salmanasar III; tribute from King of Baalezor II of Tire Joseph Flavius mentions the time between the ascension of King Hiram I the Great to the throne throne and the founding of Carthage Dido for dating the boards of the earlier Tyr rulers. One hundred and fifty-five years and eight months. However, since the writings of ancient authors mention two dates of the founding of Carthage (825 and 814 BC), in the works of modern historians, the dates of the rule of the rulers of Tire, who lived before the middle of the IX century, are not always synchronized [7] [14] [15 ] . The reign of Baalezor I dates from approximately the second half of the 10th century BC. e., and as more accurate dates are mentioned different periods from 950 to 901 BC. er inclusive [1] [12] [13] [16] [17] .
On the board of Baalezor I no information has been preserved [9] . Based on evidence from historical sources of events in the regions adjacent to Tyr, it is assumed that the rule of Baalezor I was not devoid of significant difficulties caused by the disintegration of the unified Israeli kingdom into two states ( North Israel and the Judean kingdom ), as well as the expansion of Egyptian pharaoh Sheshon I to Palestine and Phenicia . It is assumed that these processes adversely affected both the political and the economic condition of Tire [10] .
