At the beginning of the 15th century , there were 235 parishes in the Pomezan diocese, united in 16 deans.
After the secularization of the Teutonic Order and its transformation in 1525, the first Duke of Prussia, Albrecht Hohenzollern, began to promote Lutheranism . Between 1542 and 1543, the Duke of Prussia attended church visits, accompanied by the Bishop of Sambia, Georg von Polenz, and the Bishop of Pomerania, Paul Speratus . The secularization of the order and the reformation in the Pomezan diocese was opposed only by the Pomezan chapter, and the lower clergy adopted a new religion. The bishops of Sambian and Pomezan published a so-called agenda called der Artikel Ceremonien und anderen kirchenordung, which stated that the reading of the Holy Scriptures should be carried out only in German. Also, sermons, chants and sacred ordinances should have been carried out only in this language. The number of church holidays was limited, and the rite of holy baptism was to take place only in the church .
As a result of the spread of Protestantism, the Pomezan diocese ceased to exist, and its parishes in 1577 were transferred to the Helmine diocese , which was confirmed by the pope in 1601 .
Currently, the tradition of the Pomezan diocese continues Elblag diocese . More than 90% of its territory is the former Pomezan diocese. Its headquarters were Kwidzyn and Prabuti . The importance of the Kvidzinsky cathedral increased when the grave of Blessed Dorothy from Montov was found there. Pilgrimages were made to her grave, in particular, the Polish king Vladislav Jagello , visited Kwidzyn after the victory at Grunwald .
Currently, the titular bishop of Pomerania is Bishop Adam Vodarchik . By decision of Pope Francis Quidzyn again became the titular residence of the bishop.
