Biography
Joanna Khmelevskaya was born on April 2, 1932 in Warsaw in the family of bank director Jan Becker (1906 - March 11, 1983) and Yanina Konopatskaya (died in 1993). The upbringing of John was carried out by women - a mother, a grandmother and two aunts, Teresa and Lutsina. Her aunt Lucina, a journalist, had a particularly strong influence on John. She gave her niece a lot of useful knowledge, in particular, she studied French with her.
Due to the occupation of Poland by the Third Reich, John had to drop out of school. First, the same Lucina was engaged in school subjects with her, and then, in 1943 , Khmelevskaya was sent to a boarding school at the monastery of the Resurrection in Warsaw. At the end of the gymnasium, already in post-war Poland, Khmelevskaya entered the Academy of Architecture. She never considered herself a great architect. Once, while in France, she saw a small chapel in Orly and realized that she would never create one. Khmelevskaya left her profession and has since earned a living as a writer. In 1964, the novel “ Wedge by Wedge ” came out from under her pen, all in all, during her life she wrote about 60 books - detective novels and books of a journalistic nature, including Autobiography in seven parts.
Ioanna Khmelevskaya - winner of many literary awards, including the Prize of the Chairman of the Council of Ministers for creativity for children and youth ( 1989 ), two-time laureate of the AO EMPiK prize (Poland’s largest book-selling network) ( 2000 , 2001 ).
Khmelevskaya played cards and gambling very well: she claimed that she had learned to play cards before speaking. Her hobbies were bridge, racing, collecting amber and stamps, making shell beads, fortune telling on cards, composing compositions from dry herbs. Mrs. John also knew how to shoot, embroider and drive a car.
She died in the morning of October 7, 2013 in Warsaw at the 82nd year of life [3] [4] . She was buried in the Old Powzki cemetery.
Personal life
Khmelevskaya officially married once - at the age of 18, for a young man named Stanislav, who was three years older than her. In this marriage, she had two sons - Jerzy (born in 1951) and Stanislav Robert (born in 1956).
Jerzy studied at the University of Radio and Electronics in Warsaw, after which he left for Algeria to earn money. Returning to Poland - at one time he was engaged in the cultivation of champignons in greenhouses, in which John willingly helped him (from the selection of the builder of greenhouses to the collection of products). After many years of marriage, he divorced and married again to a girl who was much younger than him. From her first marriage she has a daughter, Carolina.
The second son of John, Robert, also went to work in Algeria. He was married twice, after which he left for Canada with his second wife and daughter and stayed there to live. Daughter Monica was born in a second marriage. Monica has an IT education, recently married a fellow student, lives in Toronto. Often, with her grandmother (John) traveled to France or stayed at her house in Poland.
Joanna loved to relax in France - on the coast of Brittany in hydropathic.
By her own admission, she adored cats. And in many works (including an autobiography) he expresses sincere and great admiration for the German shepherds.
