Biography
Born on June 7, 1955 in Leningrad. He graduated from school No. 199 of the Central district of Leningrad (today - the gymnasium at the Russian Museum ).
In 1978 he graduated from the Physics and Mechanics Department of the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Dynamics and Machine Strength. In 1985 he defended his thesis, in 2001 he was elected professor [1] .
In 1987, the head of the Educational-Scientific and Innovation Laboratory "Computational Mechanics" [2] , organized on his initiative at the department "Mechanics and Control Processes" of the Physics and Mechanics Department of the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute [3] .
In 2001-2010 - Director of the Department of Computer Technologies for Design and Engineering Analysis of the Main Information and Computing Complex of SPbSPU.
In the years 2002-2010. - Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Mechanics of St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University (SPbSPU).
In 2007-2010. - Director for Scientific and Innovative Activities, Research Institute of Materials and Technologies, SPbSPU.
From October 2010 to May 2011 - Executive Director of the Joint Scientific and Technological Institute, Deputy Rector for Promising Projects.
From 2011 to the present - vice-rector for promising projects of St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University (today - Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University) [4] .
A.I. Borovkov - the author of more than 100 scientific papers, prepared 7 candidates of sciences.
His research interests include Computer Mechanics and Computer Engineering (Computer-Aided Engineering), multi- and transdisciplinary computer technologies for solving industrial problems, and advanced manufacturing technologies.

CompMechLab
On the initiative of A. I. Borovkov, in 1987, the Computational Mechanic Laboratory (CompMechLab) was organized at the Department of Mechanics and Control Processes of the Physics and Mechanics Department of the Polytechnic University, and became its head. Then, the Center of Excellence in Computer Technologies (Center of Excellence, the first center of excellence at SPbPU, 2003), the high-tech engineering spin-out company LLC Laboratory of Computational Mechanics (2006) were created on the basis of UNIL Computing Mechanics [13] , a small innovative enterprise Polytech-Engineering LLC (2011) [14] and the Computer Center Center for Computer Engineering SPbPU (2013) [15] .
Currently, the group of companies operates under the common brand CompMechLab® (CML) [16] .
Factories of the Future
A. I. Borovkov is the leader of a federal mega-project for the creation of Future Factories in Russia, presented and supported at an expanded meeting of the Agency's Council of Strategic Initiatives on July 21, 2016 [17] .
From an interview with the Assistant to the President of Russia A.R. Belousov after the meeting of the Presidium of the Presidential Council on Economic Modernization and Innovative Development of Russia on June 24, 2016 :
“Today Alexey Ivanovich talked about the Digital Factory, and this, of course, is a fantastic success, a fantastic result, underestimated. We still have a lot of work to do in order to expand all this, to make it a model and model for other scientific, production, and educational centers. But the fact that we have such centers in our country is, of course, a matter of pride ” [18] .

“What Alexey Ivanovich talked about is just one example of interaction with our department. A single modular platform, as the people say “Tuple”, is one of the projects, at the beginning of which we learned about the potential of the St. Petersburg Polytechnic, in particular, about the capabilities of the Engineering Center, which was created by Alexei Ivanovich. We did not learn from our Russian colleagues, but from foreigners. In partnership with other participants, Porsche Engineering is participating in the project, whose representatives said: "You already have a champion who should be used to the maximum in this project." Therefore, we hope that those achievements that have already been made will form the basis of the National Technological Initiative, and we will definitely use those achievements, the experience that our colleagues have ” [17] .
Since August 2017, A.I. Borovkov is the head of the Project Office of the Factory of the Future in St. Petersburg [19] .
Innovation and Recognition
The research, educational, innovative and entrepreneurial activity of A.I. Borovkov was repeatedly praised by the expert community and was awarded with various private, public and state prizes, including the Prize of the Government of St. Petersburg "For Outstanding Achievements in Higher Professional Education" - a series of works "Training of competitive new generation specialists with world-class competencies" in the scientific field "Mechanics, Machines ostroenie, computational mechanics and computer engineering "- in the nomination" The scientific achievements that improve the quality of training and higher qualification "(2008); XI independent business award “Chef of the Year”, implemented by the federal group of business projects Chief Time and the magazine “Man of Business” (2017) [20] and many others.
In 2017, Laboratory of Computational Mechanics LLC (parent company CompMechLab®) became the laureate of the national industry award of the Russian Federation Industry [21] .
In December 2017 A.I. Borovkov was awarded the title "Honorary Worker in the Sphere of Education of the Russian Federation" [22] .
