Portnyagin and Putin, Kremlin , December 28, 2017

Born on October 19, 1989 in the village of Nikolaevka near Ivanteevka, Ivanteevsky District, Saratov Region [1] [2] . Parents - Oleg Ivanovich and Lyudmila Anatolyevna Portnyaginy [3] . The father holds the position of director of Neptune LLC, specializing in plumbing works [4] . The younger brother - Dmitry, served in the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia [5] . Lives in Ivanteevka with his family [1] . In 2018, the parents of the Portnyagins were listed on the Board of Honor “The Best Families of the Province” as having raised two sons [6] [7] .

In 1996 he went to Ivanteevka high school [2] [3] . He went in for sports, was interested in equipment and military weapons [8] [9] . After graduating from school in 2006 he entered the Samara Aviation College, where he passed the exams ahead of schedule and, without waiting for a diploma, in 2009 he left on conscription [2] [9] . After completing military service in the special forces unit in the Nizhny Novgorod Region , in 2010 he began working in Samara in production, and in 2012 decided to go to contract military service . He was enrolled in the special unit "Vityaz" [5] [2] [1] [9] . Got a maroon beret [2] . The military rank is corporal [10] .

He joined the Special Operations Forces, and in 2017, during a special mission in Syria, Corporal Portnyagin performed a feat whose circumstances were classified by the Russian Ministry of Defense [11] [12] [13] [14] . Thanks to the award, it became known [15] [16] [17] [18] [19] , and before that the media did not mention it [20] .

January 4, 2018 Portnyagin was solemnly met at home - in Nikolaevka, in the rural House of Culture [21] [22] . On January 13, there was a volleyball tournament named after Portnyagin [23] [24] at the V. M. Kuzmin Secondary School. Numerous ceremonial and educational events of a local scale [25] [26] [27] [28] were associated with the mention of his name.

March 11, 2018 in the film by Andrei Kondrashov “Putin” was first told about the circumstances of the feat performed by Portnyagin. According to V.V. Putin , Portnyagin was part of the special forces group of 4-5 people involved in the aircraft landing. On August 16, 2017, near the city of Akerbat, the group was attacked by Syrian rebel forces. After the commander and his deputy were wounded, Portnyagin took command of the group and after organizing the repulsion of several attacks, in order to avoid possible captivity, he fired artillery and aircraft on himself, telling the command the exact coordinates of the group. After mortar and air attacks that prevented the insurgents from approaching Portnyagin’s group, he was able to wait for the cover group to approach and evacuate from the combat area [29] [30] [31] [32] [33] [34] [35] .
