Khost ( Pashto خوست , Dari خوست Xōst ) is a city in Afghanistan , located in the southeast of the country, the center of Khost province , located 30 km from the Pakistan border.

Hosta's airfield served as the base for air operations, first in the USSR and then in the USA .
There is also a university in the city of Khost.

Fighting
During the Afghan war of 1979-1989 the city was under siege by the Mujahideen for about 8 years. In 1998, a terrorist training camp was rocket attacked by the US Army.
On May 12, 2009, several groups of armed militants ( Taliban ) broke into the Khost, a heavy battle ensued with the forces of the US Army and the Afghan National Army (ANA). According to reports, the attack was carried out by 10 suicide bombers, seven of whom managed to blow themselves up, and three were shot by members of the security forces. At least four members of the security forces and several civilians were killed in the battle [2] .
On April 4, 2014, the Associated Press journalists who accompanied the election commission employees [3] [4] were injured in the attack .
