Biography
Born on August 13, 1971 in Vladivostok, in a Russian family [1] . Father - a military sailor, was the commander of a strategic nuclear submarine [2] .
He studied at a secondary school [1] , and after the 8th grade entered the Leningrad Nakhimov Naval School [3] [4] [2] . After graduating from college in 1988 he entered the service in the Navy [1] [3] [4] .
In 1993, he graduated from the Lenin Komsomol Higher Naval School of Diving , after which he was assigned to serve a nuclear submarine with a basing station in Zapadnaya Litsa ( Murmansk region ) [2] [1] [4] [5] .
In June 1993, he was appointed commander of the control group of a mine-torpedo warhead , and in February 1994, commander of the torpedo group of a mine-torpedo warhead of the nuclear submarine B-502 of the 11th submarine division of the Northern Fleet . From September 1994, he served as commander of a mine-torpedo warhead, and from January to October 1997 he was an assistant commander of the submarine K-410 Smolensk . In 1998 he graduated from the Higher Special Officer Classes of the Navy . From July 1998 he was an assistant commander, from April 2000 he was a senior assistant commander, and from May 2004 to September 2007 he was on the post of commander of the Orel K-266 Oryol [1] . He went to sea on the submarine K-141 "Kursk" , on board the hospital ship "Svir" was at the place of the submarine's death [4] .
In 2009 he graduated from the Admiral Fleet Naval Academy of the Soviet Union N. G. Kuznetsov . In June of the same year, he became deputy commander of the 11th division of submarines, and in May 2013, commander of the 339th separate brigade of submarines under construction and repair at the Belomorsk naval base of the Northern Fleet [1] .
In December 2014, the captain of the 1st rank Varfolomeyev was appointed commander of the 11th submarine division [6] . At the same time he became the head of the Zaozersky garrison [5] . The division under the command of Varfolomeyev was repeatedly among the best formations of the Northern Fleet [7] [8] .
December 11, 2015 received the title of Rear Admiral [9] [10] . He served in operatively important areas of the World Ocean , and also took part in the Russian military operation in Syria [1] .
In September 2018 he entered the faculty of national security and defense of the state of the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation [1] .
Awards
- The title “ Hero of the Russian Federation ” with the award of the Gold Star medal (December 8, 2017, by decree of the President of Russia ) - “for heroism and courage shown in the performance of military duty” [11] [12] [1],. The award was presented by President of Russia Vladimir Putin on December 28, 2017 at a ceremony in the St. George Hall of the Grand Kremlin Palace in Moscow [13] .
