Metsatöll

Metsatöll is an Estonian folk metal band. The name of the collective is the ancient Estonian euphemism for the word wolf . Many of the group’s songs use various national musical instruments, and the main theme of the lyrics is the war of independence of the 13th and 14th centuries . The group often performs cover versions of Estonian folk songs, as well as songs on poems by Estonian poets such as Augustus Alle and Friedrich Kreutzwald .

The ensemble is a multiple winner of . In 2005 [1] , 2006 [2] , 2009 [3] and 2011 [4] , the group received a prize in the nomination “Metal Artist of the Year”, and in 2012 [5] and 2015 [6] - “Metal Album of the Year” ".

Content

History

After being formed in 1998 , the band played epic metal with a small addition of Estonian folklore. In the same year, Terast mis hangund me hinge released a demo album.

In 2000, a friend of the musicians, Lauri унаunapuu, who knew how to play different national Estonian musical instruments , joined the group. From the same year, the group began to leave for folk metal.

In 2004, the Hiiekoda album was released, which became the first Nailbord Records album, now the leading heavy music label in Estonia. [7] A year later, a remake of the Terast mis hangund me hinge 10218 demo album was released. [8] The numbers in the title of the album indicate the year from the creation of the world, according to the chronology of ancient Estonians . [9]

In 2006, two live albums were released - Lahinguväljal näeme, raisk! and Raua needmine (with Estonian national choir) and EP Sutekskäija , and in 2008 the third full-length album Iivakivi .

In the fall of 2008, the band signed to Spinefarm Records , which is part of the Universal Music Group . [10] A group tour of Europe with Ensiferum and Tracedawn is scheduled for September and October 2009. As part of the tour, concerts were announced in Finland, Germany, Spain, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Italy. [eleven]

Äio's fourth album was released on March 3, 2010 . In the three months since the release, 13,000 copies of the album were sold. [12] The Internet single and video for the song Vaid Vaprust was released on January 15. From November to December, the group went on a European tour together with the Finnish group Finntroll . [13] In the same year, the group took part in the Wacken Open Air festival. [12]

The fifth Ulg album was released on November 1, 2011. It was recorded spontaneously in the south of Estonia. On October 13th, a Küü video was released in which everyone could take part. On December 9th and 10th, 3 concerts were held in Tallinn with the presentation of the album.

On March 7, 2014, the band released their sixth full-length album, Karjajuht . [14] Jonne Järvela , vocalist of the Finnish band Korpiklaani , took part in the recording of the song “Lööme mesti”. [15] The presentation of the album took place on 21 and 22 in Tallinn, at the Rock Cafe club. The guests at these concerts were groups Korpiklaani, Litvintroll and Soul Thrower . [sixteen]

In March 2014, food products under the Metsatöll brand - sausage, bread and beer - went on sale in Estonia. [17]
