Federation Action for the Republic

In the 1997 parliamentary elections , the Action for the Republic Federation won 1st place in the Chad National Assembly . In the presidential election on May 20, 2001, Yorongar Ngarleji received 396,864 votes, which amounted to 6.35% of all voters ^[3] . Ngarlegi was one of six detained opposition candidates; he was beaten with iron bars. In the parliamentary elections held on April 21, 2002 , the party won 10 out of 155 seats ^{[4] [5]} . Today, the Action for the Republic Federation is the only major opposition party that has not signed the inter-party agreement on August 13, 2007 . This agreement provides for a change in the election mechanism in Chad. In anticipation of the next parliamentary elections scheduled for 2009 , Yorongar criticized the agreement as inadequate and said that there should be a dialogue with the participation of all political forces, including rebels, the opposition and civil society. He also noted that credible elections cannot be held during the uprising taking place in the country.
