The Australian Council of Trade Unions is the largest union organization of workers in Australia. Of the 300 unions in Australia, 46 are members of ACTU, representing about 1,800,000 union activists. ACTU had and has strong relations with the Australian Labor Party (ALP), for example, former President of ACTU Robert Hawke , became chairman of the ALP and subsequently Prime Minister of Australia. Many ATCU members were represented in parliaments.
