History
The forerunner of the museum was the “red corners” of bus and trolleybus parks, tram depots in Moscow, where museums of labor and military glory of the best workers and WWII veterans were created. Separate pieces of equipment were exhibited in them, although there was no wide access to them. In the spring of 1984, activists in the technical section of the Moscow city branch of the All-Union Society for the Preservation of Monuments of History and Culture (MGO VOOPIiK) applied to the then Glavmosgortrans with a proposal to save samples of passenger equipment that are out of service. And the proposal was supported.
In the fall of 1987, a tram retro car KM No. 2170, restored by a tram depot named after Kuznetsov, went on a guided tour along the Boulevard Ring Apakova. He took part in the celebrations dedicated to the 840th anniversary of Moscow. In the future, this car was used for filming and excursions. In early 1989, the efforts of the initiative group to create a museum from the activists of VGOPIiK MGOs and Mosgortrans employees restored the SVARZ MTBES, ZiU-5D, SVARZ TG-3, TG-4 trolleybuses and the ZiL-158 bus, and in 1990 the museum the equipment was placed on the territory of the 1st trolleybus fleet. Her first demonstration took place on November 15, 1993, at the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Moscow trolleybus. The main column in the center of Moscow was the SVARZ MTBES, ZiU-5D, SVARZ TG-3M retro trolleybuses. On August 8, 1994, the restored ZiS-154, ZiS-155, LAZ-695, LiAZ-158V, LiAZ-677B followed by the parade system on the 80th anniversary of the opening of regular bus traffic around the city in Moscow.
On Motorist Day on October 26, 1996, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Russian car, a major joint run of museum retro buses and retro trolleybuses along the streets of Moscow took place for the first time. The tram cars "F", "BF", "KP", "N", MTV-82, Tatra T-2 were restored. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Moscow tram, a unique horse-drawn carriage was recreated on the original chassis of 1899.
From one-time promotions to permanent exposure
Parades and exhibitions of retro-technology were a huge success among Muscovites and guests of the capital, which made obvious the need to create a permanent exhibition. On September 10, 1999, on the 100th anniversary of the Moscow tram, the Museum of Moscow Ground Passenger Transport was opened. Currently, he annually organizes visiting thematic exhibitions and runs of restored old buses, trolleybuses and trams. The city passenger retro-technology is used at Moscow holidays and public events, participates in parades and film making. The museum’s exposition also presents domestic trucks and cars of various eras, which in detail reflect the history of the city and the country and for many years have been an integral part of the life of Muscovites. Among them: the legendary "one and a half" and "three-ton", personal cars of Soviet leaders, models that have become "stars" of Soviet films, as well as a collection of cars "Moskvich" Museum AZLK. Here you can follow the chronology of the development of domestic transport and find out how its consistent modernization influenced the overall progress of Soviet and Russian society. Visitors get acquainted with the reconstructions of various events of the Soviet period of Russian history, known to many modern Muscovites only from books and films, and guides inform them in detail about the design features of retro transport. The famous exhibits of the Moscow Transport Museum will become the heroes of our subsequent publications.
Museum exhibits participate in exhibitions and festivals in Moscow. In 2016, on City Day, the museum’s retromobiles entered a parade of urban technology [2] . In 2017, buses and trolleybuses were presented at the Urban Transport International Salon of Innovations, which took place at VDNKh [3] . The museum also organizes temporary exhibitions. In October 2017, the Volga car exhibition was held. It presented samples of the GAZ-21 and other vehicles of the mid- 20th century , owned by private collectors [4] .
