Biography
Born December 7, 1931 in London.
In the period between 1950 and 1962, he studied painting and sculpture at Saint Martin’s School of Art in London, completing his thesis in the art community “ De Stiyl ” of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science of the Netherlands in 1967.
Maurice’s disappointment with existing galleries and museums led him to collaborate with another artist, Peter Jones, with whom they created “interactive works” in the 1960s. One of such works was Spaceplace - the first of their abstract walking spaces. Spaceplace was presented in the Oxford Museum of Modern Art ( The Museum of Modern Art ) in 1966, and the following year in the Amsterdam City Museum . Maurice Agis attracted for his work students who taught the art of installation in the years 1962-1973.
After working together for 20 years, Agis and Jones each went their own way. Agisa’s first solo project was called Colourspace and was presented for the first time in London in 1980, and then in Los Angeles and Brisbane . When Colourspace was shown in the German seaside town of Travemünde in July 1986, it detached itself from the ground, wounding five people. [one]

On July 22, 2006, Agisa established Dreamspace V in Riverside Park in , the second of three cities in the UK. The next day, repeating the events of many years ago, the inflatable installation inside of which there were people, got off the ground and rolled along the park, faced with the support of video surveillance. As a result, more than ten people suffered; two women who fell out of this design died. [2] Following this incident, the police collected the remains of the Dreamspace and began a joint investigation with the United Kingdom Labor Safety Authority . [3] [4]
Trial
On November 29, 2006, Agis was arrested on suspicion of murder. The sculptor was released on bail pending further investigation. It was reported that further investigation will take place in the summer of 2007, but was extended until the end of November. On February 13, 2008, Maurice Agis was charged with negligence that caused the death of people. The trial began on January 26, 2009, Agis was charged with a violation of occupational safety and health at work. The jury was unable to deliver a verdict on the murder charges, and the British Crown Prosecution Service announced that there would be no re-trial. On March 26, 2009, Agis was fined £ 10,000 for violations related to labor protection. On August 12 of the same year, the fine was reduced to 2,500 pounds sterling on appeal. [five]
