Biography
Alexander Mikhailov was born on February 20, 1957 in the village of Arylakh, Verkhnekolymsky District, Yakut Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic . In 1974 he graduated from high school in the urban-type settlement Zyryanka and immediately entered the Yakutsk vocational school No. 1 to study as a driver. While studying in Yakutsk , at the age of 17, Mikhailov began to engage in boxing under the guidance of the honored trainer of the YASSR William Vasilievich Ivanov. Noticing Alexander’s great talent for boxing, the first coach in the same year led him to the section to the honored coach of the RSFSR Vadim Vladimirovich Otkidach. And in the spring of next year, Mikhailov became the champion of the DSO "Labor Reserves" .
In the same 1975, as a member of the national team of the Russian Council of Labor and Employment Reserves, Mikhailov was called up for military service in the Soviet Army, becoming a sailor of one of the sports companies of the Pacific Fleet. There, Alexander began to train under the guidance of the honored trainer of the RSFSR Boris Yegorovich Kubasov.
A sharp rise in Mikhailov’s sporting results occurred in 1978. Being an unknown master of sports candidate for the boxing community, Alexander won the gold medal at the 44th USSR Championship among adults, which was held in Tbilisi in late February - early March 1978. Boxing in the weight category up to 51 kg, Mikhailov then beat such famous domestic ring masters as Viktor Miroshnichenko and Alexander Tkachenko , who were content with bronze medals, and in the final fight defeated Muscovite Alexander Dugarov on points. After just a few weeks, Mikhailov managed to become the winner of the international tournament in Alma-Ata, having defeated compatriot Anatoly Klyuyev in the final there.
After these successes, Mikhailov was included in the national team of the USSR for speaking at the 2nd World Championship, which was held in May 1978 in Belgrade (Yugoslavia). In the first fight, at the 1/8 final stage, Alexander knocked out at the beginning of the 2nd round of Thai boxer Narong Pimpavan. In the quarter finals, Mikhailov managed to knock down American Michael Felde three times in the 1st round, after which the referee stopped the fight due to the obvious advantage of the Soviet boxer. In the semifinal match, Alexander lost on points with a score 0: 5 to Pole Henrik Srednicki - four-time champion of Poland, the European champion in 1977, who eventually won a gold medal at that tournament and is the only representative of Poland in history who managed to become the world champion in boxing among fans.
After that, Mikhailov was awarded the title of master of sports of international class. As a member of the USSR team, Alexander won in his battle as part of a match meeting with the Nigeria national team. In late January - early February 1979, Mikhailov became a member of the match meetings between the national teams of the USSR and the USA, which took place overseas. According to their results, Alexander won one victory and suffered one defeat. In the summer of the same year, Mikhailov became the silver medalist of the VII Summer Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR held in Moscow, losing to Alexander Tkachenko in the final battle on points.
In the autumn of the same year, Mikhailov took part in the USSR team cup in Kuibyshev, representing in the weight category up to 51 kg a sports and athletic association of the Armed Forces. At the preliminary stage, Alexander won two victories, and in the final he lost by points to the representative of the DSO "Labor Reserves" Eduard Valerianov and, together with his team, won the silver medal of that tournament.
At the beginning of the 1980 Olympic season, Mikhailov fought as part of the USSR-USA match in Moscow, losing 1-1 to Harley Snead on points. Then in February Alexander won the Oscar (Belgrade's Pobednik) international tournament in Belgrade (Yugoslavia). At the May championship of the USSR of that year, Mikhailov became a bronze medalist, losing to Alexei Nikiforov in the semifinals. And in October, speaking in a weight of up to 54 kg, Alexander won a bronze medal at the international tournament “TSC” in Berlin (GDR).
After that, Mikhailov’s athletic performance declined. In 1982, as part of the YAASSR team, he became the winner of the international friendly meeting held in Yakutsk with the MPR team. In the same year, Mikhailov won the gold medal at the RSFSR Championship in Yakutsk, where the YASR team won the team event for the first time in history.
In 1984, Alexander graduated from the History and Philology Department of Yakutsk State University with a degree in historian, and a teacher of history and social studies. After completing performances in the ring, Mikhailov became the founding organizer of kickboxing in Yakutia. In 1989, he attended a kickboxing seminar, after which in the autumn of that year he opened the first section of this sport in the republic in the gym at the Yunost stadium in Yakutsk, where he began to work as a trainer. Of his pupils, Alexander Ivanov, Alexei Uvarov, Ilya Cherkashin became famous kickboxers. Mikhailov was vice president of the Kickboxing Federation of Russia (until September 1992), and is also an honorary vice president of the Kickboxing Federation of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) .
Mikhailov worked as deputy chairman of the Yakut Republican Council of Labor and Employment Reserves, SPTU-16, senior inspector for fitness and recreation activities at the PKP Yakutskservisdosug of the Ministry of Culture of the Yakut Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, deputy director of the National Concern TEVR, chief specialist in commercial matters of the Sakha Agro AOZT Bai-Back ”, Deputy General Director of Lik LLC, Deputy Director of the Yakutsk Branch of the Novosibirsk State Academy of Water Transport (since 2015 - Siberian State University of Water Transport) , a senior trainer at the School of Higher Sports Excellence at the Directorate of Physical Culture and Sports, general director of Sakhaspetssnab LLC, a sports instructor at Nizhne-Lenskoye OJSC, and first deputy head of the administration of the Bulunsky District (ulus) . In the local elections held on October 12, 2008, he was elected head of his native Verkhnekolymsky district (ulus).
Mikhailov was awarded the distinction RS (I) “Civil Valor”, the honorary badge “For Merits in the Development of the Olympic Movement in Russia”, the honorary badge “For Merits in the Development of Physical Culture and Sports in the RS (Y)”, the honorary badge “For Merits in the Development Boxing RS (I) ”, certificates of honor of the Supreme Council of the YASSR and OK Komsomol, and also awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Yakutsk. The son of Alexander Mikhailovich Alexander Mikhailov in 2004 became the boxing champion of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
