Johnny William Bower ( eng. John William Bower ); birth name John William Kishkan ( Eng. John William Kiszkan ) [3] ( November 8, 1924 , Prince Albert , Saskatchewan , Canada - December 26, 2017 , Toronto , Ontario , Canada) - Canadian hockey player of Ukrainian origin, who played the role of goalkeeper. With the NHL club , the Toronto Maple Leafs won four Stanley Cups . January 1, 2017 was included in the list of the 100 greatest NHL players .

Member of the Second World War . He lied about his age to the draft board in order to go to the front at the age of 15. He served in England as a gunner for the 2nd Canadian Division from 1940 to 1943 [4] . His service ended when he was fired due to rheumatoid arthritis in his hands [5] .

He was married to Nancy Bower. The couple had three children (son John, daughters Cindy and Barbara), eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren [6] .

Death

December 27, 2017, Johnny Bower died at the age of 94. Death came after a brief struggle with pneumonia . [7]

  • Bauer twice became the owner of the " Vezina Trophy " - the prize for the best goalkeeper of the NHL regular season.
  • In 1976, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame , in 2006 - into the AHL Hall of Fame.
