Features
RZ Pisces is an orange subgiant; it is not visible to the naked eye.
In 1929, the German astronomer Kuno Hofmeister discovered the variability of a star, attributing it to a class like Algol [3] . In 1956, the Soviet astronomer Vladimir Tsesevich discovered non-periodicity in the minima of its variability [4] . The star has been studied in more detail since the 1970s. It was assigned to a subclass of UX Ori stars based on three factors: deep algol-like minima, the blueing effect, and an increase in the degree of linear polarization at minima [5] . This means that the star is surrounded by a disk of dust and gas, in which large planet-shaped objects are present.
Observations in 2017 by a team of astronomers from the University of Rochester showed that the surface temperature of the star is about 5600 Kelvin , which is comparable to the surface temperature of our Sun [1] . However, RZ Pisces is much younger: its age is estimated at approximately 30-50 million years. It was also determined that non-periodic drops in the brightness of the star are associated with dense formations of dust and gas, which appeared as a result of the destruction of one or more planets.
