Tournament Participants
In 2017, the Spengler Cup is held for the 91st time from December 26 to December 31. Taking part in it: the hosts of the tournament - the Swiss “Davos” , the traditional participant in the tournament - the national team of Canada , another Swiss club - “Lugano” . The Czech “Mountfield” and two teams from the KHL - Yekaterinburg “Avtomobilist” and Minsk “Dynamo” also took part in the competition. The Swiss national team first participated in this traditional tournament since 1979.

Tournament Rules
Teams are divided into groups Torriani and Cattini, in each group the teams play in a circular system in one circle. The winners of the groups go directly to the semifinals, the rest of the clubs play in the quarter finals for the right to reach the semifinals. In the quarter-finals, the second-place team in the Torriani group plays with the third-place team in the Cattini group. In the other quarterfinals, the team that finished second in the Cattini group played with the team who finished third in the Torriani group.
For a victory in regular time, 3 points are awarded, for a victory in overtime or a series of shootouts, 2 points are given, for a loss in overtime or a series of shootouts - 1 point, and for a defeat in regular time, the team is not given anything.
