History
The former name is Sofiyivka . Founded as a village in 1783. In 1858, Sophievsky coal mine was opened in the village.
On May 12, 2016, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine assigned the village the name Sofiyivka as part of the decommunization campaign in Ukraine [4] . The renaming was not recognized by the authorities of the self-proclaimed DPR [6] .
