Biography
Born September 28, 1903 in Tambov . He studied at a two-year school, then entered the pedagogical college. In 1923, being a Komsomol member , he was sent to the Far East . He lived in Vladivostok , worked as a laborer, at the same time since 1925 he studied at the Faculty of Oriental Languages of the Far Eastern University , but managed to finish only three courses, since in 1929 he was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army . He served in Blagoveshchensk .
I became interested in writing poetry at the university. It was published in the Vladivostok newspaper “ Red Banner ”. After serving in the army, he worked in the newspaper Amurskaya Pravda, then as a correspondent for the Pacific Star in Vladivostok. He traveled a lot around the region, wrote poems and essays. Member of the Writers' Union since 1934. In 1935, his first collection of poems entitled “The East” was published, which was highly praised by the writer Alexander Fadeev . Three years later, Soviet Writer published the second book of Afanasyev, Poems . In 1939, the collection Primorye [1] , which was the last lifetime edition of the poet’s poems [2], was published in large circulation in Moscow . He continued to write about the Far East, and after having lived there for fifteen years, he moved to Moscow (he worked as a referent for the commission for lithoconsultations and expertise under the Presidium of the Writers' Union), but his creative activity was interrupted by the war.
He volunteered for the militia. Participated in the defense of Moscow , in December 1941 was surrounded, fought in a partisan detachment, which in 1943 joined forces with the army. In September 1943, in the battles for the liberation of Smolensk, the poet was seriously injured and soon died in the hospital. His last letter from the front dates back to the third of September. Afanasyev’s writing diary was lost [1] .
He was a fighter of the " Writing Company " - a division of the Red Army, formed in 1941 in Moscow mainly from professional writers [3] .
