Norman Myers ( Norman Myers , born August 24, 1934, Yorkshire , England) is a British environmental scientist, an expert with experience in more than 50 countries [1] . Associate Fell 2] , WWF UK Ambassador [3] , Foreign Member of the NAS of the USA (1994). Winner of the Blue Planet Award (2001), Sasakawa Environment Prize, UNEP (1995), Volvo Environment Prize (1992). In 2007, Time magazine named it Global Hero of the Environment .

Biography

He graduated from Oxford University with bachelor's degrees (1958) and master's degrees (1963). Ph.D. Ph.D. received in 1973 at the University of California at Berkeley.

In 1958-1965 he worked in Kenya, the last four years - a university teacher. In 1966-69, a freelancer - a journalist, photographer, lecturer, etc. - was engaged in wildlife in Africa. In 1970-71 doctoral student at the University of California, Berkeley. Since 1972, he has been engaged in consulting projects for research organizations and development agencies, including the NAS of the USA , , the White House , the US Department of State, the US Department of Defense and Energy, the World Bank, UN agencies, OECD, IPCC, European Commission, Shell, McKinsey, Rockefeller and MacArthur Foundations [4] [1] . In Africa, he spent only 24 years, mainly in Kenya and Ghana [5] .

He was a visiting professor at Harvard, Cornell, Stanford, Yale, the universities of California and Texas, Michigan, Kent, Oxford, Utrecht, Tokyo, Cape Town Universities, Duke University [5] [1] .

Fello of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the , the Linnaeus Society of London and the Royal Society of the Arts.

He was married in 1965-1992, divorced, two daughters, one of whom is the runner .

The author of 300 published works in scientific journals, including Science, Nature, Foreign Policy, Scientific American, BioScience, American Scientist , and 350 popularization articles, as well as 20 books [1] , the latter were translated into 12 languages, and their sales exceed 1 million copies [6] [5] [7] [3] [8] .
