Biography
Japheth Uutoni was born on June 29, 1979 in Windhoek , Namibia .
Amateur career
The first serious success at the adult international level was achieved in the 2005 season, when he joined the main team of the Namibian national team and won the first flyweight category at the African Championship in South Africa. He represented the African team at the World Cup in Moscow.
In 2006, he defeated all rivals at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and thereby won the gold medal. A year later, he performed at the All-African Games in Algeria , but could not get into the number of winners here, he stopped at the stage of quarter finals.
He was the best at the African Olympic qualification in Algeria, boxed at the Klitschko brothers international tournament in Kiev, where he was stopped by the Cuban Jampier Hernandez in the quarterfinals. Thanks to a series of successful performances, he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , however, he had only one fight here - already at the preliminary stage of the category up to 48 kg with a score of 5: +5, he was defeated by Pole Lukash Mashchik .
After the Beijing Olympics, Uutoni remained in the Namibian boxing team and continued to take part in major international tournaments. So, in 2010 he attended the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, from where he brought the silver dignity award won in the first flyweight title - in the decisive final match lost to the Irish Paddy Barnes .
In 2011, he once again became the Namibian boxing champion, took bronze at the World War Games in Rio de Janeiro, spoke at the All-African Games in Maputo .
He tried to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London , but did not perform very well at the African Olympic qualification in Casablanca, he lost in the 1/8 finals [1] .
Professional career
After leaving the Olympic team, in 2012, Uutoni successfully debuted on a professional level. He played exclusively in Namibia, having won seven consecutive victories over two years.
In July 2014, he contested the World Boxing Organization (WBO) champion of Africa, but in a close 12-round fight by a separate decision of the judges lost to compatriot Abmerk Shinju. Soon, a rematch took place between them, and this time Uoutoni won by unanimous referee decision, taking the championship belt for himself.
Having won several rating fights, in April 2016, Japheth Uoutoni won the vacant WBO international champion title in the first flyweight category, and then successfully defended his championship belt.
In February 2017, he entered the ring in a contender for the WBO world champion title with Puerto Rican Angel Acoost , but his opponent was too strong - the Namibian boxer knocked down a total of four times, and in the tenth round the referee registered a technical knockout.
