Both the Finnish and Swedish names for the city mean “end of the lake” and reflect the location of Järvenpää at the end of the oblong lake Tuusulanyarvi .
Despite the fact that Järvenpää is almost a completely Finnish-speaking city, there is a Tatar community here. There is a mosque (built in 1943).
Content
History
Until 1951, Järvenpää was part of the neighboring city of Tuusula on the other side of the lake.
Since 1967 is a separate city. With an area of less than 40 km², Järvenpää, with its 37.5 thousand inhabitants, is one of the most densely populated cities in Finland.
Transport
Twice an hour a train runs from Järvenpää to Helsinki, which can be reached from here in half an hour. In addition to the main station, the city has three more. Helsinki- Lahti Motorway passes near Järvenpää. Due to the good transport links, many people working in Helsinki are moving here. The population of the city is therefore constantly growing.
Famous residents
At the beginning of the 20th century, Järvenpää attracted numerous artists and artists. Composer Jan Sibelius lived here from 1904 until his death in 1957 , creating five of his seven symphonies. Today his house is a museum. Also here lived the composer Jonas Kokkonen [4] , the writer Juhani Aho and the artist Eero Järnefelt . On the opposite bank is the villa of the composer Jonas Kokkonen .
The life of the artist colony in Järvenpää is dedicated to the art museum, opened in 1992 .
