Francisco Santos Leal ( Spanish: Francisco Santos Leal ; born May 28, 1968 Valladolid , Spain ) [1] - Spanish mathematician, known for his counterexample to the Hirsch hypothesis in multifaceted combinatorics [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] . For this discovery was awarded the Fulkerson Prize [7] . In 2013 he was awarded the Humboldt Prize [8] .

Biography
Francisco Santos was born in Valladolid , Spain [9] . He received a degree in mathematics from the University of Cantabria in 1991 , after graduating from the University of Grenoble 1, he graduated with a master's degree in pure mathematics [9] . Santos returned for a second visit to the University of Cantabria, which he graduated with a Ph.D. in mathematical fields from algebraic curve , combinatorial geometry, and delaunay triangulation [10] . After a doctorate at Oxford University, he came to Cantabria for the third time only to work as a teacher since 1997 , and in 2008 became a professor there [11] . From 2009 to 2013 , Santos was vice dean at the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Cantabria [9] .
In addition to his Fulkerson Prize, which he was awarded in 2015 for a counterexample for the Hirsch hypothesis [2] [3] [4] [7] , he was a speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in 2006 [9] .
Santos is editor in-chief of the [12] .
