Biography
Born in a family of teachers. By education - teacher. From 1967 to 1989 she worked as a school teacher in Copenhagen and Esbjerg . Since 1988 - in the government of the Faroe Islands. From 1989 to 1994 she was chairman of the Teachers Association.
In 1991-1993 - Minister of Education, Culture, Justice and Religion.
From January 18, 1993 to September 15, 1994 she was the first and only woman - Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands. At the same time, the Minister of Administration and Public Works. During the premiere, she fought for the activization of the role of women in politics, for the introduction of the Equal Status Act, which was adopted in 1994.
In 1993-1996 - Chairman of the center-left Social Democratic Party of the Faroe Islands .
In 1988-1998, he was a member of the Faroese Legting (parliament) (with the exception of the periods when she was prime minister or minister). In 1994-1995 - speaker of Legting .
In 1998-2001, she was elected to the Danish Folketing .
In 1998, she became the head of the Center for Special Education (schools for mentally retarded children).
