Samuel Hamilton Walker ( English Samuel Hamilton Walker ; February 24, 1817 , Toping Castle, Maryland , USA - October 9, 1847 , Wamantla , Tlaskala , Mexico ) - captain of the Texas Rangers , army officer of the Republic of Texas and the United States of America . Walker participated in several military conflicts, including Indian and Mexican-American wars.

Biography
Walker was born on February 24, 1817 at Toping Castle in Maryland, to the family of Nathan and Elizabeth (Thomas) Walkers, and was the fifth of seven children. [3]
In military service
In 1842, Walker arrived in Texas, where he took part under the command of Adrian Wall in defense against the Mexican invasion. In 1844, he joined the ranks of the Texas Rangers, commanded by captain John Coffey Hayes. Later, receiving the rank of captain, Walker led the Rangers during the Mexican-American War, along with the armies of Generals Zachary Taylor and Winfield Scott .
Walker took part in Mieer's expedition and was able to survive the Black Bean incident.
Walker Colt
Walker is best known as a co-author of the famous Colt Walker revolver , in conjunction with arms manufacturer Samuel Colt . Walker, at his own expense, went to New York to meet with Colt and offered the weapon that was based on the then popular five-shot Colt Paterson revolver, with many improvements, for example, the sixth cartridge in the drum. In 1847, a new revolver was created. Company United States Mounted Rifle noted the effectiveness of weapons. [four]
Death
On October 9, 1847, Walker was killed in the city of Huamantla , Tlascala , when he led troops at the during the Mexican-American War . He was shot with a shotgun from the balcony, although a popular legend often claims that the weapon was a spear. [five]
In 1848, the remains of Walker were moved to San Antonio. On April 21, 1856, he was reburied at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in San Antonio.
