Zemanchik, Ian

Born in 1752 in the village of Starina (now the district of Stara Lubovna, Slovakia). He studied at the University of Pest and as a graduate of the University in 1786-1787 was an adjunct at the Department of Mathematics. I tried to get a scholarship to continue my studies at the University of Gottingen ^[1] .

In 1787, Jan Zemanczyk was appointed professor of physics at the Studium Ruthenum Institute at the University of Lviv by decree of the Imperial Chancellery. Since 1791, he taught physics at the Latin Faculty of Philosophy. In 1794, he became an ordinary professor in the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Philosophy, while continuing to lecture at Studium Ruthenum, where the language of instruction was Russian. He organized a wonderful physical office, for which he received a government award. After the departure of Peter Lodia to Krakow in 1801, Jan Zemanczyk read math in Studium Ruthenum. In 1795-1796, he was dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, and in 1803, the Academic Senate elected him to the post of rector of the university for the next academic year ^[1] .

In 1805, after the unification of Lviv University with Krakow, Jan Zemanczyk with many professors moved to Krakow. From 1805 to 1809 he worked as a professor of physics and in the academic year 1806-1807 he served as dean of the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University . In 1811-1812 he was a professor of physics at the Lyceum in Linz , in 1813-1822 - professor of physics and mechanics at the University of Vienna ^[1] .

He died on June 19, 1825 in Vienna.
