Story
The film takes place in 1981 in New York ( South Bronx ). The plot tells of a graffiti artist named Raymond, better known under the pseudonym Zoro. The main canvas for his work are the trains of the New York subway . Zoro has a girl named Rose. She organized a team of graffiti artists, along with whom in her area painted walls of houses with large drawings. In her opinion, such art ennobles the district. Zoro himself is not part of her team and does not change the theme of the metro at all. Zoro begins to notice that Rose is more and more interested in other guys from her team than in him. Zoro also has a friend named Faith. In the past, they drew together graffiti in the subway underground, but now their paths have diverged. Faith became the manager of a small local club, where various amateur hip-hop musicians perform.
Faith awaits the arrival of the Virginia journalist from a big newspaper the other day. She is preparing an article about modern street culture. Faith has high hopes for this article, because then more people will know about him and his club. He also very much wants her to talk with Zoro, as one of the most famous street artists in the city. Zoro meets a journalist, but does not feel much enthusiasm about her article. He does not want to fall on the pages of newspapers, much less want to see his picture there. All the last time he managed to keep his incognito and the police had never caught him. Virginia takes Faith and Zoro to a party in Manhattan , where various influential people spend their time looking for an opportunity to capitalize on this new and emerging street culture. For example, the party owner asks Zoro to draw graffiti for her, but on canvas, so that this work can be hung on the wall, like a painting.
In the meantime, the organizers of one amateur rap festival are turning to Faith with a request to paint a scene for them. Faith gives this task to Zoro. He plans to draw a big picture there, but his idea does not work out. Rose comes to his rescue. She invites him not to get hung up, as usual on himself, and not to draw to himself, but to devote his picture to rap artists. Zoro turns out to decorate the stage and the film ends with a music festival.
The events of the film take place against the background of various activities characteristic of the time of the birth of hip-hop: essing , turntable , graffiti and break dance .

Reviews
The Rotten Tomatoes site has a film freshness rating of 89% based on 18 reviews. [4] In its review, The Guardian newspaper noted the low quality of the film’s production, but recognized its merit in transmitting the atmosphere of the early hip hop era, with a total of 4 stars out of 5 [5] . The BBC website recommended watching the movie because of the hip-hop legends involved in it, as well as the fact that the film shows the time before the appearance of gangsta rap on the west coast , when hip-hop was still a small youth culture from the cellars of New York At the same time, the review noted a complete lack of plot and professional actors [1] . According to The AV Club website, the clumsy plot completely overlaps with music, dancing and graffiti and called the film a “ time capsule ” for those who are interested in hip-hop cultural roots [6] .
