History
In 1886, a store and a post office were founded on the site of the current city. It was expected that the Panhandle and Santa Fe Railway would pass through the city. The new city was named after lawyer and judge . A year later, Lipscomb was elected the county’s administrative center, ahead of the cities of Dominion and Tims City [4] .
The railway eventually went south of the city and all attempts by local businessmen to branch into Lipscomb were unsuccessful. In 1888, a coal vein was discovered near Lipscomb, but its thickness was only 5 inches (13 centimeters) and the attempt to open the mine failed. By 1910, there were several churches, a bank, a pharmacy, and a number of other institutions in the city. In 1916, a modern district court building was built; two newspapers, Panhandle Interstate and Lipscomb County Limelight , worked in the city. However, by 1980, two organizations and a post office remained in the city. The lack of major highways and railways led to the fact that in the XXI century the number of inhabitants drastically decreased [4]
