In the modern world
At the beginning of the 20th century, Karl Ernst Osthaus developed the Folkwang-Gedanke or Folkwang-Konzept, according to which art and life can be harmonized. According to this concept, several cultural institutions were founded using the name Folkwang (German spelling Fólkvangr). These institutions include the Folkwang Museum in Essen (opened in 1902)
