Peter Dodds McCormick ( eng. Peter Dodds McCormick ; circa 1834 - October 30, 1916 ) is an Australian composer of Scottish descent, author of the Australian national anthem , Develop, Beautiful Australia ( Eng. Advance Australia Fair ).

Biography
The son of a Scot sailor. He was a joiner. He emigrated to Australia. Arrived and settled in Sydney in February 1855. He worked in his specialty, actively participated in music circles.
Later, he taught, worked in the education authorities of New South Wales . He took part in the activities of the Scottish Presbyterian Church, a number of public and charitable organizations. He was chairman of the Presbyterian Church Assembly Psalmology Committee. Organized many church choirs.
Almost to his death he taught religious studies in public schools.
Died in a suburb of Sydney. Buried at Rukwood Cemetery .
Creativity
He published about 30 patriotic songs about Scotland, including the popular patriotic song Advance Australia Fair , which later became the Australian anthem. The Advance Australia Fair was first publicly performed in Sydney on November 30, 1878. It was with this song that a choir of 10,000 people welcomed the creation of the Australian Union on January 1, 1901. Thirty years after the first execution, the government awarded P. McCormick a hundred pounds . The song was widely used in official events and in advertising, having no official status.
On May 21, 1977, the state held a national plebiscite to choose the national anthem - citizens were offered a choice of three songs and the British anthem God Save the Queen . Advance Australia Fair won with 43.6% of the vote.
In 1984, the song "Develop, beautiful Australia" in his own words was officially declared the national anthem of Australia.
