Keke, Kiren Adogan

Kiren Adogan Keke ( naur Kieren Aedogan Ankwong Keke ; b. July 27, 1971 , Nauru ) - Nauru political and medical figure, one of the founders of the Naoero Amo political party, was a member of the Nauru parliament and served as ministers of health, foreign affairs, sport and tourism [1] [2] [3] [4] .

Biography

Kiren Keke was born on July 27, 1971 in Yaren on Nauru. Together with David Adang , , , and Sprent Dabvido Kiren is one of the founders of the Naoero Amo party. In the May 2003 parliamentary elections, party members won 3 out of 18 seats (Adang, Keke, and ). “Naoero Amo” entered into a coalition with supporters of Ludwig Scotti , and when he became the 24th president of Nauru, Keke received the posts of ministers of health and sports and transport [1] .

In 2004, Keke was accused by speaker Russell Kun of dual citizenship (Nauru and Australian , which deprived him of the right to sit in parliament. [5] In April of that year, after a protest at Nauru International Airport in Yaren , members of Naoero Amo - Keke, David Adang, and were charged with incitement to rebellion, and when Scottie presidency on June 22, 2004, all charges were dropped and he received the post of Minister of Culture and Tourism, Health, Transportation [2] .

In 2007, Keke, together with Frederick Pitcher and Roland Kun , resigned from the government due to dissatisfaction with the policies of the president and his deputy, David Adang. November 13, 2007 Kiren Keke led the opposition of Scotty [6] .

On December 19, 2007, Ludwig Scotti was relieved of his post and was replaced by Kiren's cousin - Marcus Stephen . Keke received the posts of Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Foreign Affairs and Trade and Assistant to the President [3] .


In 2008, Nauru Speaker David Adang tried to expel Keke from parliament by issuing a law prohibiting members of parliament from dual citizenship at the April 22 parliamentary session. In addition to Cyrene, this is Frederick Pitcher , who, in addition to Nauru’s citizenship, was also Australian and was not invited to the meeting. On March 28, Adang ordered Keke and Pitcher to vacate their seats in parliament, but was refused [7] , after which he accused the government of a coup [8] . In the 2010 election, he was re-elected again [12] . On November 10, 2011, Cyrene Keke was replaced as Foreign Minister [13] .

Government of Sprent Dubvido

On November 15, 2013, Sprent Dubvido became the 29th President of Nauru , following Stephen's resignation and the removal of President Frederick Pitcher . Kiren Keke initially opposed Sprent, but in May 2012, Dubvido dismissed his entire cabinet and replaced them with opposition members, thereby Keke was reinstated as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Health and Sports [4] . At the UN Climate Change Conference in 2012, Keke was a representative of the Alliance of Small Island States, where he expressed his dissatisfaction with the outcome, calling it words without action [14] .

On February 7, 2013, Keke resigned without public explanation, abandoning all his posts and ministerial portfolios [15] . In the 2013 parliamentary elections , Keke was re-elected from the Yaren constituency [16] .
