Creative career
The work of Cynthia Gutierrez marks a constant search in the field of memory analysis at various levels. Her creative process is based on splits in existing models. [1] For an artist, memory is defined as the absence of created matter, an insightful design that conditions our interaction with reality [4] .
In 2009, the artist was invited to the residence of the LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijon in Spain . Where she implements the installation of the work “ Preservation of memory ” , and is interested in the impact of migration on the social, personal and family memory of people affected by exile.
In 2014, she participated in the 28th Frac Pays de la Loire Workshop in Nantes, led by Daniela Perez. [5] For this new project, the artist is inspired by the texts of the book History of the Variations of the Protestant Churches, written by the French churchman and writer Jacques-Bennin Bossuet . The artist is interested in the traces left by time on the pages of the work: small holes eaten by moths. In videography, you can see the page turning over the book, then in the projection on the wall, before the eyes, the details of the book increase, become an abstract form and make obvious not only the traces left by insects, but also the physical and historical decay of the work absorbed by time.
Since 2012, Cynthia Gutierrez has been a member of the National Council for Culture and the Arts (CECA). She is also a member of the Cerro Quemado Association of Autonomous Artists and Cultural Workers.
