The district was located in the southeast of the Prussian province of Pomerania and bordered in the north with the district of Köslin , in the west - with the district of Stettin , in the south-west with the district of Frankfurt in the Prussian province of Brandenburg, in the east and southeast - until 1939 with Poland , and after its occupation by Wehrmacht troops from the Reichsgau Warteland and Danzig - West Prussia . The administrative center of the district was located in the city of Schneidemül .

History

Posen Province - West Prussia (1922-1938)

In March 1938, the province of Posen-West Prussia was liquidated, created in 1922 after the abolition of the provinces of Posen and West Prussia as a result of the transfer of their main territory in favor of Poland under the terms of the Treaty of Versailles . The territory of the liquidated province, which consisted of three unconnected parts, was divided between the neighboring provinces of Pomerania , Brandenburg and Silesia . At the same time, two border regions of Brandenburg were transferred to Pomerania. Thus, Pomerania received the largest territorial increment, as a result of which a new administrative district was formed here, called the Posen district - West Prussia in memory of the former province. The administrative center of the district also became the former capital of the abolished province - the city of Schneidemül.

After the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht troops and the formation of the Reichsgau Danzig - West Prussia and Posen (in 1940 - renamed Warteland ), the Posen-West Prussia district was not transferred to the new Reichsgau (unlike, for example, the West Prussia district , which in 1939 from the province of East Prussia was transferred to the Reichsgau Danzig - West Prussia), and until 1945 remained part of the province of Pomerania.

After the war, the territory of Posen-West Prussia was completely controlled by Poland, becoming part of the . Today, after numerous administrative reforms in Poland, this territory is part of Greater Poland , West Pomeranian and Lubusz Voivodeships.
