Discoveries and research

Sesame Cave was opened in 1986 by the Lithuanian speleologist Raimondas Daniūnas. In that year, it was passed to the Old Bottom, and the following year an extremely narrow meander was found, which ends with a 78-meter-deep well (Big Well). Before the expedition in July 2006 (headed by Raimondas Daniūnas), the depth of the cave was considered to be 150 m (the results were obtained after hydro-leveling). After a 20-year hiatus in exploration, Sesame Cave became 20 m deeper and 50 m longer.

Lithuanian Expeditions 2006-07

  • expedition in June / July 2006 [2]
  • expedition in October 2006 [3]
  • expedition in July 2007 [4]
  • expedition in August 2007 [5]
  • expedition in October 2007 [6]
  • expedition in November 2007 [7]

In October 2006, during the second expedition to Sesame, the largest narrowings were expanded, so now almost everyone can go to the False Bottom. And in 2007, Sesame did not lose popularity and did not cease to attract the attention of Lithuanian cavers: four of the five expeditions to the Karabi-Yalu were dedicated to Sesame. Two of them are for surveying and hydro-leveling. But the bottom of the cave has not yet been reached. The immediate goals are the same: searching for the continuation of the cave (expansion), surveying new parts, and also the window in the Big Well has not yet been checked. Currently, the depth of the cave is 206 m. [8]
