Waterbich Station is 98.19 km (61.01 miles) from London Liverpool Street Station (when driving along the West England mainline ) and 101.86 km (63.29 miles) from London - Kings Cross Station ( when driving on the East Coast Highway ).
Waterbic station works automatically without staff. All station buildings have been demolished, there are only sheds for passengers on each of the two platforms, which are not opposite each other, but on both sides of the automatic railway crossing , equipped with automatic semi - cords . Before electrification, the lines of the platform were located opposite each other [1] .
History
The station was opened by the Eastern Counties Railway on July 21, 1845 [1] . Prior to its electrification, the state-owned British Rail trains rarely stopped at it, or made stops informally. However, after electrification, almost all trains on the Kings Lynn / Ely - Cambridge / London routes stopped here (according to the current schedule, only three trains do not stop at Waterbich in both directions on weekdays), so the number of passengers using the station increased significantly, as Waterbich was used as its main railway station north of Cambridge in South Cambridgeshire. As a result, the station has a lot of problems with parking railway passenger cars [3] .
Perspective plans
The District Council of Southern Cambridgeshire unveiled plans to build a New City for 8–9 thousand houses on the site of the former Waterbiech barracks. As part of these plans, there is a proposal to move the station to a new place, closer to the New Town, for half a mile to the north [4] .
