Biography
Gareth Warburton was born April 23, 1983 in the city of Beverly , the ceremonial county of East Riding of Yorkshire . Welshman by nationality, trained in Cardiff , Wales , was a local eponymous athletic club "Cardiff".
He made his first appearance in 2005 when he joined the British national team and visited the European Youth Championship in Erfurt , from where he brought the silver dignity award won in the 4 × 400 m relay race - the British then bypassed only the Polish team. Later he performed at the adult European championship indoors in Madrid and also won the silver medal in the relay, losing at the finish line to the French team.
He played for Wales at the Commonwealth Federation Games in 2006 in Melbourne, however, he could not get through to the finals in any of the disciplines, in the 400-meter race he took the final 28th place.
In 2010, he ran for Wales at the Commonwealth Federation Games in New Delhi, finishing fourth in the 800 meter race and sixth in the 4 × 400 m relay.
In 2011, he successfully performed at the European Team Championship in Stockholm , took the bronze at the eight-meter distance, passing only Pole Adam Koschot and Frenchman Jeff Lastenna ahead . At the same time, the UK team was not among the winners here, having settled down on the fourth line in the final protocol.
Thanks to a series of successful performances, Warburton was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London - at the preliminary stage of the 800-meter run, he finished only fifth and was unable to reach the semifinal stage.
After the London Olympics, he remained in the track and field team of Great Britain and continued to take part in major international competitions. So, in 2014 he was supposed to perform at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow , however, shortly before they started, he was convicted of violating the anti-doping rules and suspended from participating in any races [1] . In January 2015, the UK Anti-Doping Agency found that the banned substance got into his body along with contaminated additives, and the athlete did not know about its presence - as a result, his disqualification period was reduced to six months, which had already expired [2] .
