The depth of the known part of the cave according to the results of the 2017 survey is 2204 m [3] and exceeds the depth of the Krubera (Voronya) cave by 7 m [4] . Record depth reached without overcoming siphons . During the March 2018 expedition, the depth of the siphon lake was measured. The last site of Nemo, which added 8 meters to the depth of the cave and it increased to 2212 meters. The entrance to the cave with a section of 3 × 4 m is located on the pass between the mountains Fortress and Umbrella, closer to the slopes of Mount Fortress. Title
It was initially marked as C-115, then P1-7, but in 1986 it was renamed the cave named after Alexander Verevkin . Speleologist Alexander Verevkin died in 1983 while passing a siphon in the Su-Akan cave, located in the Sary-Tala massif, Kabardino-Balkarian Republic , Russian Federation.
Research History
- 1968 - the cave was discovered by Krasnoyarsk cavers. Depth completed was 115 meters. The cave was marked as C-115.
- 1982 - the cave was found a second time by the expedition of the Perovsky speleoclub (Moscow). Marked as P1-7. During the expeditions of the Perovsky caving club of 1983-86, the cave was passed to a depth of 440 m.
- From 1986 to 2000, work in the cave was not conducted.
- From 2000 to 2015, the Perovo speleoclub and the Perovo-speleo team continued research work. The depth of the cave remained 440 m.
- In August 2015, as a result of the expedition of the caving club "Perovo", a well was found whose depth, as it was later established, was 156 m. This discovery meant that the period of laborious exploration of the cave was completed. It marked the beginning of a series of significant discoveries.
- In June 2016, the expedition of the Perovo-Speleo team took place, in which the cave was passed to a depth of 630 m.
- In August 2016, in a joint expedition of the Perovo-Speleo team and the Perovo caving club, the cave was passed to a depth of 1010 m, in October - to a depth of 1350 m.
- In February 2017, during the expedition of the Perovo-Speleo team, the cave was passed to a depth of 1832 m, which made it the second deepest in the world after the Krubera (Voronya) cave.
- At the beginning of August 2017, the cave club “Perovo” passed the cave to a depth of 2151 m. In the lower parts, extensive horizontal parts were found that were not typical of the Arabica massif. They are an ancient reservoir of the karst aquifer system. The cave became the second superdeep (deeper than 2 km) and the deepest, accessible without underwater equipment.
- In the second half of August 2017, the Perovo-Speleo team went through the cave to a depth of 2204 m, setting a new world depth record.
- In March 2018, the Perovo-Speleo team conducted another expedition, adding more than a kilometer of moves to the map of the cave and measuring the depth of the siphon lake Nemo’s last parking lot. The depth was 8.5 meters, so the total depth of the cave reached 2212 meters.
