House of clergy

House of Orphanage , postal house , parish house , church house - a residential building in the parish church complex, intended mainly for permanent residence of the clergy ( clergy and clergy ) of the church with their families. The friendly cohabitation of several families of clergymen and clergymen in one house at the church, and their collective housekeeping, rallied the entire church community of this parish , and the rest of the parishioners showed an image of sincere Christian unity, openness, trust, mutual support, selflessness and deep patience .

In addition, the clergy house can accommodate rooms for the office , sacristy , Sunday school , pilgrimage hotel, refectory and other charitable institutions [1] .

In the cities of Russia, a significant number of clergy houses have been preserved, built mainly in the 18th- 19th centuries . So in Moscow 32 buildings of clergy houses are attributed to cultural heritage sites and another 20 to identified cultural heritage sites [2] .

After the adoption in 1918 of the Decree on the separation of the church from the state and the school from the church , according to which church and religious societies did not have the right to own property, clergy houses, along with other property of church organizations, were declared public property. They were used to accommodate various institutions and communal settlement. On the other hand, some clergy houses escaped the fate of many churches destroyed during the Soviet era. Often the clergy house remains the only building from the demolished temple complex. Such, for example, is the clergy house of the Armenian Holy Cross Exaltation Church in Moscow, built by architect J. Felten .

Currently, clergy houses are being built in complexes of parish churches and Orthodox missions. The set of rules for the design and construction of “Buildings, constructions and complexes of Orthodox churches” SP 31-103-99 provides for the concepts of “Church and the House of Clergy” ( baptismal , refectory, prosphorina , etc.) and “residential house of clergy”.
